What to Bring-
It is worth packing light to be able to fit everything on the bike. I think of this less in terms of weight and more in terms of bulk.
I can provide the following:
Kitchen Equipment
Boats, paddles, pfds, and ww helmets (feel free to bring your own)
Water filter
Drybag for personal items
Basic bicycle repair tools
Bicycle tire pump
If you have your own version of anything on the above list that you would prefer to use feel free to bring it with you.
I can provide the following if you do not have:
Sleeping bag (40 degree or warmer)
Sleeping pad
Bikepacking bags
Tent
You should bring the following:
Bicycle
BicycleHelmet
Bicycle Repair kit (see note below)
Red and White removable Bicycle lights
Headlamp
Toiletries (see note below)
Clothes (see note below)
Water bottles
Bicycle:
Any bike will work! We recommend a bike with tires that are wider than 40mm.
Bike repair kit:
Your repair kit should include:
Flat tire kit: 1 spare tube, patch kit, plug kit (for tubeless wheels)
Chain repair kit: 1 speed link, 1 short section of chain (both needs to match chain)
Optional for your repair kit:
Tire lever
Bicycle multi-tool
Chain Pliers and Tool
-It is worth visiting your local bike shop before the trip to have them check your bike and to advise you on any additional things they suggest you carry in a basic repair kit for your bike. If you have not used your bike in a while it is worth cleaning and lubricating your chain.
Toiletries
It is only an overnight but there are a few things that will make the trip more pleasant. I will carry a first aid kit with basics (bandages, blister care, over the counter medicines, etc)
Biodegradable Soap and Hand sanitizer
Toothbrush and paste
Sunscreen
Bug repellent (non pressurized)
Body Powder
Medicine you regularly take or carry
Bandana or lightweight cotton cloth (useful for personal hygiene)
Clothing-
You will be wet! We will all swim at least one whitewater practice swim. The boats are self-bailing (water flows in and out of the bottom of the boat) so you will be wet in the boat. It is nice to have separate bottoms for the second day of riding.
My typical packing list for this type of trip:
This is a bit general, depending on the weather you may want to leave a few items behind
2-3 pairs non-cotton socks
2-3 non-cotton underwear or bike short liners
1 quick dry shorts
1-2 long pants (these can be quick dry, waterproof or long underwear)
1 light weight long sleeve shirt (fancy tex or goodwill cotton button down)
1 short sleeve non cotton shirt
1 Rain Jacket
1 midweight warm layer (fleece, wool, puffy)
1 reflective vest, jacket, or pizza slice
1 warm hat
1 sun hat
1 pair of closed toed river shoes that will stay on in the water (keens or old running shoes are great, not crocs)
1 pair of dry shoes for camp (crocs are a good lightweight option- many people enjoy biking in them. Another option is to bring a pair of waterproof socks and wear your wet shoes for biking and in camp)
1 sarong or light weight towel (for privacy when changing)
